The most important Italian museum dedicated to the history of the Italian country was born in Turin in 1878, just a few after the death of first king of Italy, Vittorio Emanuele II. After a restoration work which lasted for years, in 2011 the renewed museum has been open to public.
The guided visit, which lasts about two hours, retraces the story of Italian Unification, from the French devolution to the first world war, and leads the visitor face to face with the Fathers of the Country: Cavour, Mazzini, Garibaldi and so on. Fulcrum of the visit is the Deputies Chamber of the first Subalpine Parliament, national monument since 1898. The museum is located inside Palazzo Carignano, masterpiece of the architect Guarino Guarini, which dates back to the second half of XVII century, enlarged in the second half of XIX century to host the new Deputies Chamber of the First Italian Parliament.
