Baroque masterpiece of architect Guarino Guarini, Palazzo Carignano dates back to the second half of 1600. It was wanted by the Savoia-Carignano, cadet branch of the ruling dynasty, as a city residence.
Inside the building you can admire the sumptuous Prince’s Rooms, their walls covered with mirrors and gilding and the marvelous vaulted ceilings are painted in fresco by Legnanino. Also you will climb the splendid Honor Staircase which, during the Risorgimento, led to the Chamber of Deputies of the Sardinia Kingdom.
In this building, on March 14, 1820, Vittorio Emanuele II, the first king of Italy, was born.
